A few months back, I had the pleasure of meeting Master Sommelier Alpana Singh at a conference in New York City. I don’t know how many of you can relate, but when you get two driven female entrepreneurs together, the ideas start rolling. I’ve always admired Alpana’s work and success, and it didn’t take long for us to start talking shop. Happy hour turned into dinner, and an idea was born over beautiful Champagne and Burgundy that evening: the Taylored Wines Sommelier Series.
Each month, Taylored Wines will feature one sommelier who will share their favorite under-the-radar wineries with you. Through Taylored Wines’ website, you’ll have direct access to these wines, which will ship straight from the winery to your door.
We’re thrilled to kick off the monthly Sommelier Series with Master Sommelier, restaurateur, and former Check, Please! host Alpana Singh. Alpana is the youngest female to pass the final level of the Master Sommelier exam and is the proprietor of The Boarding House, Seven Lions and Terra & Vine in Chicago and Evanston, IL.
Throughout the month, we’ll share information, tasting notes, recipes, advice from our featured sommelier, and much, much more. To kick things off, Alpana has chosen to highlight Azur Wines in Napa Valley. Azur is run by husband and wife duo Julien & Elan Fayard. Julien has been working harvests since the age of 16, but his first release of his own label, Azur Wines, was in 2009. With only a few hundred cases of each wine produced, he focuses on the many microclimates found in the Napa Valley, allowing the terroir to shine through.
I find it fascinating to taste wine with my friends who are sommeliers, both because of the phenomenal dialogue that takes place, and because of the unique wines that we share together. To be able to share that experience with you, while highlighting brilliant industry experts, through videos, photos, and our website is all thanks to one random night in Manhattan.
We hope you’re as excited as we are for Sommelier Series, and you can find the first collaboration right here: www.tayloredwines.com/sommseries
Check back tomorrow for an in-depth introduction to Master Sommelier Alpana Singh!
*Taylored Wines’ only features artisanal, family-owned wineries. If you haven’t heard of them, it’s because they are heads-down focused on making amazing wine rather than marketing their brand (that’s where we come in!). You can either think of it as us saving you a trip to wine country to find great wine, or us giving you a list of amazing wineries to visit the next time you go. You can thank us later. With so many mediocre options on store shelves, we want to make it simple for you to get the best – delivered right to your front door.
